Redford government to modernize 9 Calgary schools

Infrastructure Minister Ric McIver and Education Minister Jeff Johnson have announced plans to modernized 18 schools in Calgary and Edmonton.
Among the Calgary projects are upgrades to Jack James High School including increased Career and Technology Studies space.
The others include:
-Aboriginal Family Community School (former Harold W. Riley School)
-Bowness High School
-Christine Meikle School
-Foundations for the Future (former Montgomery School)
-St. Cyril School
-St. Vincent de Paul Elementary/Junior High School
-Ste. Marguerite Bourgeoys School
-Westmount Charter School (former Sir William Van Horne School)
The government committed to building and upgrading 120 schools in the province last spring and this is the latest step.
McIver said it’s still too soon to provide an update on what this will cost. “We have an over-riding budget, but we can’t do tenders until it’s announced and now we will work with the school boards to put the tenders together and once those tenders come back then we will know the exact price tag by project,” he said.
He said he hopes to have the projects underway within a couple of years and added that the government will try and make the impact upon students minimal. “We will try to make it as painless and as seamless as we can, but make no mistake, when you’re doing construction; at some point someone will be inconvenienced.”
