Council debates walkway snow clearing

Should taxpayers be paying for city walkways to be cleared of snow?

A report put forth to a city committee Wednesday, asked for the public’s feedback.

They aren’t a priority for city crews, which means they are usually left to people in nearby residences to take care of.

Councillor Diane Colley-Urquhart said the suggestion citizens should go out and shovel them is “ridiculous”.

She added, people are already burdened with trying to remove snow and ice from in front of their own homes.

A decision on whether to set aside money to clear the pathways won’t be made until next winter.
