More H1N1 vaccine shipped out

Canada is shipping out more influenza vaccine this season than it has since the H1N1 pandemic four years ago, with nearly every province placing late orders.

The Globe and Mail reports, the Public Health Agency of Canada has had to source down extra vaccine to meet a late season surge in demand.

Officials believe the prevalence of the H1N1 virus and news that 16 people have died from that strain in Saskatchewan could explain the need for more shots.

However, January and February are not the best months to get the flu shot, because full protection doesn’t kick in until two weeks later, meaning you’ve gone thru almost the entire flu season without protection.
