Weather blamed for restaurant woes

Bad weather is December across much of the country is being blamed for hurting the bottom line of many Canadian eateries.

The Canadian Restaurant and Food Services Association reports 37 per cent of its members reported lower sales in the fourth quarter of the year.

Forty-four per cent of operators also suggest they will have to raise menus prices over the next six months to cope with rising costs and other business challenges.

Despite the pessimistic business outlook, more than 60 per cent of restaurateurs are planning to maintain their current staffing levels.
