Alberta lags behind other provinces in energy efficiency

Alberta uses more energy per capita than any other province in Canada, according to a new report released by the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy.
The report also shows that Alberta spends the least amount on energy efficient programs.
One of Author’s of the report is Dr. Hamid Zareipour, who offered a number of ways the province can improve.
The recommendations include:
-Recognizing those who lead the way in energy efficiency with a “Premier’s award in energy efficiency.”
-Adopt and enforce a leading energy efficient building code
-Develop a suite of heating and cooling energy efficiency programs for commercial and industrial sectors.
-Develop a suite of energy efficiency programs to promote combined heat and power generation.
-Develop a policy platform with Alberta’s cities and municipalities.
-Review appropriate opportunities to support the development of a compressed-natural-gas transportation network.
Zareipour said Alberta would be wise to direct more attention and resources toward improving its current inefficiency.
