Animal activists will be gathering Thursday in Calgary to protest the horse capture season.

The province is granting permits to capture up to 200 feral horses to try and control the animals’ population in Alberta.

Protesters believe many of the horses once trapped, will end up in slaughterhouses.

Volunteers have been busy laying down hay, trying to lure the horses away from capture sites.

A rally will happen at the McDougall Centre at 12:30p.m.
