Calgary Zoo names penguin

The Calgary Zoo has named their new penguin chick.

Citizens were asked to choose between four different names, Georgia, Una, Ronne, and Hope.

Around 700 votes later, the name Una took the top spot.

Trish Exton-Parder, spokesperson with the Calgary Zoo, tells 660News it was hard to determine if the baby chick was male or female.

“We let nature take its course and waited until the vets wanted to do ‘baby’s first checkup’, and determine the sex of the baby. Then the naming contest kind of fell after that,” said Exton-Parder.

Over 1,700 people took part in the contest to name the baby penguin.
