More kids drinking coffee and energy drinks: study

Kids today are ingesting as much caffeine as they did in the last decade but they are getting their energy boost in different ways.

A new study found one-quarter of young people aged 2 to 22 drink coffee; that’s double the number from 1999 to 2000.

While soda intake has dropped, kids are consuming more energy drinks.

Three-quarters of Americans under the age of 22 had caffeine on a daily basis even though and there are concerns about deaths due to caffeine toxicity among kids and teenagers.

The study is in the new online edition of Pediatrics.
