Calgary swears in new Canadian citizens

They came from thirty different countries, several different backgrounds but Tuesday morning they all had one thing in common.
One hundred people took their final step towards citizenship Tuesday morning becoming new Canadians in a ceremony to honour Black History Month.
The ceremony began with African drumming and ended with the words “you are now a Canadian and the citizen of a bilingual country.”
There were tears of joy, happiness, laughter and relief.
660News spoke with Aida and her family who have been in Calgary for seven years, originally from Lithuania.
“We already accomplished so much, and the kids are really happy to be in such a prosperus country and to feel freedom and more opportunities,” she said.
On hand representing the province was MLA Kent Hehr who called the event of the best parts of his job.
“Greeting new citizens and sharing their stories and watching them go through the process is truly an amazing thing,” said Hehr.
