Morrison bronze highlights Day 8 for Canada in Sochi

Make it a second long track speed skating medal for Canadian Denny Morrison.
The B.C. native finished a surprising third in the men’s 1,500 metre event Saturday.
He wasn’t expected to contend for a medal in the individual competitions.
Earlier, Morrison claimed a silver medal in the men’s 1,000 metres.
Canada’s Jennifer Jones won both of her games today to clinch a semi-final berth in the women’s curling competition.
The Winnipeg squad improved to 7-and-0 by downing Japan 8-6 and host Russia 5-3.
Jones’ rink cemented top spot in the round robin. In men’s action, Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, improved his record to 5-2 with a 7-5 win over Britain.
Canada placed 14th and last in the women’s cross-country skiing four-by-five-kilometre relay.
Perianne Jones of Almonte, Ontario, Daria Gaiazova of Banff, Alberta, Emily Nishkawa of Whitehorse and Brittany Webster of Caledon, Ontario were more than six minutes behind the gold-medallists from Sweden.
Canadians Alex Harvey and Devon Kershaw won’t compete in the Olympic men’s 4 x 10-kilometre cross-country ski relay Sunday.
Harvey and Kershaw want to be well rested for the team sprint Wednesday.
They won the event at the 2011 world championship and were fourth at the 2010 Vancouver Games.
