Peaceful and purposeful protest outside the Calgary Courts Centre

More than two dozen people gathered Wednesday to remember Francis Pesa, who was killed in a drunk driving crash back on New Year’s day.

Family and friends of the 20-year-old promised they would not let him become a statistic, vowing to initiate a campaign demanding stiffer penalties for those convicted of drunk driving.

Jesse Serrano who was a good friend of Francis tells 660News, in the coming weeks they also plan to launch a website to share Pesa’s story with others, including video messages from those still struggling with his death.

Serrano says the website will also include a link to an on-line petition.

While placards with the words “Francis Gives Francis Lives” were being waved, the accused in the case, 36-year-old Kulwinder Singh Chohan was scheduled to appear inside.
