Should Alberta extend bar hours?

In the wake of Sunday’s unprecedented move to allow bars to serve hockey fans alcohol outside of legislated hours, the province’s Justice Minister took to Facebook, asking followers if Alberta should consider extending serving hours.

Most of those replying to Jonathan Denis’ query said yes.

660News asked Calgarians what they thought, and responses were split right down the middle.

Nick, a former bar worker, said later closures would ease Calgary’s cab crunch.

“I think it would lower statistics on more than just that. Probably — assaults that happen — I have seen many a person get in a fight over a cab. So, if they extended the business hours, I think it would definitely help out,” he said.

Shauna disagreed, saying if they give Albertans an inch, we’ll take a mile.

“I don’t really go out much, anymore, but when I used to, everyone just stayed until they were like ‘okay music’s off, lights are on, time to go now’. So, I think people will just stay until it’s closed,” she said.
