High River Town Hall faces new setback

It’s just another setback for High River, it’s people and their staff.
After months of being closed, the Southern Alberta community’s Town Hall was slated to finally re-open Monday afternoon but the building’s pipes froze under the frigid weather.
June’s flood ravaged it, forcing staff to work out of temporary quarters until it could be restored.
The facility was then open for a brief time in October before additional water problems and an electrical fire forced them to back move out.
Deputy Mayor Cathy Couey says it comes as a huge blow to displaced staff who were counting down the days on their desks.
“They’ve been working in the trailers for the past 10 months and were so looking forward to getting back,” she tells 660News. “I guess it’s just the case where we’re experiencing the same pains as everyone else in town and we just want to go home too.”
“It has been a long time coming and not only are the staff displaced, but they’re displaced in different locations,” Couey adds. “There’s ‘trailer-town’, there’s another group of staff at the Charles Clark Medical Centre so everyone’s kinda displaced.”
It’s unclear on how long it will take to fix or when they might be able to move back.
The forecasted cold is expected to delay the efforts of repair crews.
Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday has been moved to the Culture Centre on 9th Avenue.
They’re still working to find a location for their meeting on March 10th.
