Flood permit deadline approaching

Building approval officials with the City of Calgary are sending a message to owners of the 2600 buildings damaged by floods last June.
The city is reminding those having repairs done to their property that they are required to pull a permit.
Spokesperson Marco Civitarese said nearly 2,000 trade permits have been issued for flood repair in the city.
He said he finds those numbers encouraging, but a bit lower than anticipated.
“Most people are engaged with us in resolving permits, obtaining permits and having the inspection process followed, but for those who are still awaiting decisions of funding, awaiting decisions related to insurance claims, waiting for decisions related to Government of Alberta funding, those are the people that need to focus on the March 31st deadline that’s approaching,” he said.
The city said permits and inspections by city code officers are required by law, and necessary to insure flood repairs have resulted in safe buildings.
