Salt is in demand for cities

A winter to remember across North America, has put a strain on the supply of road salt.

One of the major suppliers in Ontario tells the Globe and Mail, it’s facing the highest demand its seen in two decades, and has actually had to deny new customers.

That’s forced many municipalities to lean on their neighbours for some of what they’ve come to calling “white gold.”

It’s not proving effective, and so many municipalities are simply salting major routes and urging caution on secondary and side roads.
