Ski hill safety improves in Alberta

The 28 employers who operate Alberta’s skill hills are proving safety is a priority.
After an Occupational Health and Safety focused study, the targeted inspection from the Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour Thomas Lukaszuk, shows infractions dropped almost 60 per cent this season from a similar campaign last year.
Calgary’s Canada Olympic Park is also getting a gold medal in its achievements.
Winsport’s Kim Jones said their staff improved safety in a number of ways.
“They know how to wear safety equipment and all safe practices, and know their rights and their obligations, under the applicable law,” said Jones.
Lukazsuk said a new seminar showing employers the benefits of investing in health and safety help make the improvements, seen around the province, possible.
Now that the ski hills are on track, he’s going after another sector.
“When it gets warm, the residential construction industry warms up,” said Lukazsuk. “So this is a fair, not warning, but a challenge, to our residential construction industry in Alberta, starting now, we will be targeting this industry.”
