distracted dining

Parents who are spending March break with their kids may be multitasking, checking their smartphone or tablet at the dinner table.

Researchers watched dozens of caregivers at fast food restaurants in Boston.

The vast majority checked their devices during the meal with their kids.

Some children responded by acting out in order to get parental attention.

Experts warn that adult digital distraction could interfere with their children’s social and verbal skills and remind parents that quality family time over meals has been linked to teenagers less likely to get pregnant or abuse drugs or alcohol.

The study is in the journal pediatrics.
