City Hall talking possible utility hikes

You could soon see a hike in your utility bills!

Council will be debating spending millions of dollars for wastewater and other utility projects at City Hall Monday.

It’s estimated $3.5-billion needs to be spent on these projects in the next decade.

Councillor Ward Sutherland tells City, they need to figure out how much money needs to be borrowed and how much will come from taxpayers.

“There’s a real struggle because we need to make some specific investments, like the Bonnybrook plant for toilets. We have to expand on that, and that’s a $117-million project. That’s one of the reasons we’re talking about the city charter, because we need proper funding,” he said.

The meeting will take place behind closed doors Monday, and then head to council later this month.
