Despite support from the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, and Canadian Taxpayers Federation, a Wildrose private members bill was voted down in the legislature Monday.
Bill 202, brought forward by Calgary MLA Heather Forsyth, would have established an independent provincial budget officer in an effort to give more transparency on budget numbers.
“We had a two hour debate with only one government member speaking and that was the minister of finance. He gave 101 reasons why he couldn’t support it, which is unfortunate because they (the PCs) keep telling Albertans they are open, transparent, and accountable,” Forsyth said.
Forsyth accused the Redford government of intentionally manipulating budget numbers to confuse Albertans.
