Taber Police charge 28 year old woman with second degree murder

A 28 year old woman has been charged with second degree murder following an alleged “alcohol-fueled” altercation Friday night in Taber.

“There were three people that were in a residence, sitting around a kitchen table drinking beer,” says Inspector Graham Abela. “An argument ensued between two of them, which resulted in a pushing match.”

Abela says that’s when the accused, Trina Thomas, went for a butcher’s block, grabbed two knives and stabbed the 47-year-old victim in the chest.

There were no working phones in the home, one of the individuals ran to a pub to phone police for help but by the time they arrived it was too late.

47-year-old Howard Sakebow was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The two have known each other for several years, in the past they were romantically involved but no longer, they were just friends,” says Abela.

There is no word yet on Thomas’ next appearance.

Both the victim and the suspect are known to police.

Abela says this is an isolated incident and he wants residents to be assured they are living in a safe community.
