Flood repairs underway on Memorial Drive

Drivers along Memorial Drive will have noticed it’s down to one lane in each direction between Crowchild Trail and 16th Street NW.

Fences have gone up as work is about to begin along the river bank.

Lee Hang-Lui with the Water Services department told 660News, this is the fourth of a half dozen critical flood related projects that need to be completed by June.

“Back in the fall, the City of Calgary announced six critical erosion sites that we needed to proceed with immediately because there was a direct risk to public and critical infrastructure,” she says.

The project will include a lot of earth moving and rock placement to ensure the Bow River doesn’t again flood in the area and damage Memorial Drive.

People should expect major traffic tie-ups there until mid-May.  The pathway will also be off-limits.
