Dave Hancock sworn in as Alberta’s 15th premier

Dave Hancock is now officially the 15th premier of Alberta.
Hancock took the oath of office in front of fellow caucus members and guests in a ceremony at Government House on Sunday evening.
Minutes before taking the oath, caucus whip George VanderBurg formally submitted Alison Redford’s resignation as premier.
Hancock was voted by caucus to take over from Redford after she resigned Wednesday amid caucus turmoil.
With a smile and a handshake, Hancock received nearly a minute of applause as he signed his pledge to lead the province.
Now tasked with healing the Alberta caucus, Hancock’s first speech as premier was focused on teamwork and representatives bringing their best to work each day.
“Alberta is a place of growth and of change, in a world of change. The people of Alberta have entrusted our government to work on their behalf to create the right conditions for growth development, to capture the opportunities Albertans want for themselves and their families while ensuring we act as stewards for future generations,” said Hancock.
Hancock will serve as premier until the Progressive Conservatives select a permanent replacement in the coming months, but says he himself will not be a candidate.
PC party officials will meet Monday in Red Deer to set out the details for a leadership race.
