Alberta budget gets a ‘C’ grade

A new report comes down hard on the Tory government for its difficult to follow budget.

The C.D. Howe Institute says Alberta’s recent fiscal plans have been needlessly complicated and baffling even for the experts, awarding the province a ‘C’ grade.

The study criticizes the PC Party’s “confusing array of operating, saving and capital accounts” saying it’s hard for the ideal reader to make “simple comparisons between projections and results.”

Similar criticism came when the 2014 budget was released this year, forecasting a $1.1-Billion surplus.

Many were confused with how that could be possible when the province was facing billions of dollars in capital debt.
