There is a special birthday celebration at the zoo this weekend as Kira, one of three Amur tiger cubs born at the Calgary Zoo is turning two.
Some kids at the zoo’s spring camp who threw a special party for her Friday.
Kira and her mother Katja rolled about in the snow, and wrestled with some specially wrapped gifts made by the kids this week.
Keeper Elaine Willms says the treats help promote natural behaviours and are essential to Kira’s growth and development.
“So they formed a bunch of balls, put catnip — that sort of a thing — in it, and it was put out for her like presents. We also did what we call blood popsicles with a horse tail in it, and that’s kind of their cake,” she said.
Kira seemed thrilled with her birthday gift.
The horse tails are a regular staple for these calves, but the blood popsicle is a special treat.
