Earth Hour push spans across Calgary

When Earth Hour observers turn off their lights at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the City will be doing the same thing at its municipal buildings and fire stations.
City of Calgary Environmental Specialist, Claire Beckstead, said hopefully it’ll lead to Calgarians talking about energy conservation.
“We would love it if people would talk about what actions they could take beyond just the one hour,” she said.
Various events are going on across the city, as well as at the Rothney Observatory, where light pollution will be the topic with a documentary screening starting at 6:30 p.m.
They’re also accepting donations for the Calgary Food Bank.
Meanwhile, CrossIron Mills and Bullfrog Power are using wind and hydro to power the equivalent number of homes in all of Calgary and Airdrie Saturday.
The renewable electricity demonstration is also hoped to encourage Calgarians to take Earth Hour beyond just the one day.
