The Alberta government is investing millions of dollars to help battle blazes across the province.
They are providing 19 projects with $4.5-million; for things like fire prevention.
The general manager of the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta, Todd Nash said this in an ongoing issue and programs like FireSmart are trying to combat the issue.
“FireSmart has been around a long time” he said. “What this is about is raising the profile and enhancing the whole FireSmart programming out there, so putting a greater emphasis on pre-planning and prevention”.
The prevention strategy is a response to an independent report after the 2011 fires that devastated Slave Lake.
