PC Party has legal, undisclosed trust fund

Alberta’s PC Party is leaning on a trust fund to help deal with their massive debt.

The National Post reports, the undisclosed trust is legal, but only for the Tories.

That kind of financing has been forbidden to other parties since the 70’s, but a grandfathered-in bill brought through by Peter Lougheed in 1977, exempts the PC Party from public disclosure laws.

The Director of the Public Interest Alberta Advocacy Group wants the party to come clean on how much is in the fund, and for the loophole to be addressed.

The PC’s took out a $1.6-million line of credit during the last election that they are still trying to pay off.
