It appears this long and drawn out winter has inspired many Canadians to go away.
WestJet reports, it carried 4.8-million people to destinations in the first quarter of the year; that’s over 300,000 more passengers than the first quarter of last year.
Spokesperson Robert Palmer says while planes actually had a few more open seats this year, added flights more than made up for that.
“A 2.1 per cent increase is not all that significant, particularly in light of the fact that we increased our capacity by 6.6 per cent, which is to say that we flew 6.6 per cent more miles than we did in March of 2013,” Palmer said.
Palmer adds the company had it’s second highest first quarter load factor in company history this year at 83.1 per cent.
