A small section of Peace River has flooded

About 100 people were affected when Pat’s Creek flooded much of the downtown.

It’s not the Peace River. It remains under ice.

The town has issued an advisory evacuation, and has set up the Baytex Energy Centre for anyone that wants to evacuate.

Peace River Mayor Tom Tarpey says they have things under control.

“We haven’t initiated the emergency operations centre, so we’re quite confident we’re going to be able to control this,” says Tarpey. “The waters have already receded.”

Emergency personal were on the scene, and doing their part to get rid of the water.

“We have cut out a small section of the dyke between the town and the Peace River,” says Tarpey. “We’re building earth and dykes to direct the flow through this cut in the dyke.”

With the freezing we’ve had and the warm weather through the day, he thinks ice built up and backed up Pat’s Creek.

The town says it’s also keeping a close eye on Heart River.
