The Calgary Police Guns and Gangs Unit has increased its workload in the past day by three files after three buildings were struck by bullets in the northeast over a seven hour period starting early Friday night.
The first was a house in Rundle, where police say what appears to be a stray bullet hit the home after two groups got into a confrontation outside.
That shooting took place in the 100 block of Rundleridge Way, N.E. at around 6:30 p.m.
Two hours later, in the 300 block of Taravista Drive, N.E. in Taradale, a number of bullets were fired into three units of an apartment complex; two of them were vacant, though one of those apartments contained some marijuana.
Duty Inspector Michael Watterston says the drugs may end up providing clues as to why that building was targeted.
He says, “While this was certainly was a residence that received sustained bullet rounds, so at this point, it may have been related.”
Then, a third home was hit at around 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning, once again in the community of Rundle on Rundleridge Crescent, N.E.
Police believe this was a targeted attack as well.
No one was injured in any of the incidents, and so far, no charges have been laid. However, investigators are interviewing some witnesses who are known to police.
So far, Watterston says they are treating the shootings as three separate incidents.
