Calgarians bid a bittersweet farewell to the zoo’s three elephants this weekend.
The popular residents got a little more attention then usual, as the animals prepare to move to Washington, D.C. later this month.
The zoo wrapped up a month long program aimed at helping Calgarians say goodbye to the animals on Sunday.
Officials decided on the move, after realizing they didn’t have the funds to build the animals a bigger habitat.
They aren’t releasing the official date the girls will be taking off, only that the public isn’t guaranteed to see them again before they go.
