Roads department looking at changes to street sweeping

The roads department is looking to make some changes to street sweeping.

It comes after city council cut $700,000 from their budget last week.

They will look at several ways to get the job done with less money, including towing vehicles so they only have to make one pass when street sweeping.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said the cuts were a part of the city’s plan to find efficiencies anywhere they can.

“I don’t want to think about it in terms of money, I want to think about it in terms of service,” he said. “What I want to make sure is that we do a good job of cleaning streets and that we do it quickly”.

Nenshi said unlike most departments roads decided to cut funding to just one program.
