Local golf season draws closer

With the snow now melted, golf courses around Calgary are starting to open.
Among them is the home to the upcoming “Shaw Charity Classic,” Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club.
Members will be able to play the Back Nine beginning Monday as Head Pro Josh Gardener says the Front Nine is undergoing some renovations that will keep that portion of the course closed until around July 1.
“We’re going to re-grass all the fairways so that all the grass on the entire golf course is going to be consistent and delicious,” explained Gardener.
“It’s a fabulous layout and the conditions last year for the tournament were very very good so we’re just doing what we can to make it even that much better.”
Three confirmed PGA Champions Tour players have already committed to play in the late August tournament; defending champion Rocco Mediate, Mark Calcavecchia and Kenny Perry.
