New sites marked for skate parks in Calgary

The City of Calgary has picked eight sites for new skateparks, as part of the Skateboard Amenities Strategy.

Starting this year, the first three will be built in Huntington Hills, Southwood and Chinook Park Kelvin Grove/Eagle Ridge.

These locations will demonstrate two different types of skateparks that can be developed; the first is called a skate spot, which is about the size of half a basketball court.

The second, a neighbourhood skatepark, is around the size of a tennis court.

The city will engage Calgarians in the design process, with an input session on Wednesday, April 30 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the former Centennial Planetarium along 11th Street Southwest.
