Canada adds one hundred smiling citizens

There were flags flying and people smiling.

100 new Canadians were sworn in Saturday morning at the Calgary Courthouse.

They were welcomed with open arms by government officials.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi shook hands with the new smiling citizens.

“There are very few places in the world where we can legitimately say, and mean it, that nobody cares where you came from, or what you look like, how you worship or who you love” he said. “We care about what you bring to the table and whether your willing to work hard to achieve your dreams and if you are you can do it here”.

Nenshi said attending the ceremonies is one of his favourite things to do as mayor.

It’s rare he finishes one without a tear in his eye.

Justice Minister Jonathan Denis was also on site. He said this is a reminder of how great our nation is.

“Many people who were sworn in today are from different parts of the world that have involved in war and conflict. We can never take for granted what it is to be Canadian and the benefits that we have in this country” he said.

The diverse group comes from more than 30 different nations.
