April forest fires cause significant damage

It may not seem like it given the recent wet weather and the snow, but April has been a costly month in Alberta in terms of forest fires.
There have been 49 new wildfires this month alone, burning almost 350 hectares.
Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development spokesperson Duncan MacDonnell tells 660News, it’s another reminder of how careful we have to be when outdoors.
“Most of the wildfires in Alberta are human caused, meaning that they can be prevented. The lightning caused wildfires, is what we see in August. right now what we see is all human activity,” said MacDonnell.
According to the province, there are currently 11 fires inside the Alberta forest protection area.
