Wildrose support growing in the polls

The polls are tipping in the Wildrose Party’s favour.

A new report from Insights West says if an election were held tomorrow half of voters would vote for Danielle Smith and company.

It’s a tale of two parties, as it’s the best of times for the Wildrose who have surged to 50 per cent support, while the Conservatives are only holding on to 56 per cent of those who supported them just two years ago. The PC’s hold 21 per cent support according to the poll.

Mario Canseco with Insights West said the PC’s are not out of this yet.

“It’s difficult at this point to sustain that momentum especially when we are heading in to the leadership race for the governing party,” he said.

Canseco said with Jim Prentice leading the race for the Tories top spot it could all change.

“When you look at the numbers of those who support Prentice to be the next leader or who see him as a good option to be the next leader of the PC party, there’s a lot of liberal voters who see him as an option,” said Canseco.

Across the province, 50 per cent of decided voters would support the Wildrose Party if an election took place tomorrow. The ruling Progressive Conservatives are a distant second, followed by the New Democratic Party (NDP) with 16 per cent and the Liberal Party with 11 per cent.

1/4 Albertans are undecided.
