Calgary needs to catch up with the rest of the country when it comes to recycling, according to a new report to be presented to city council on Monday.
It suggests Cowtown has a shortage of depots where Calgarians can drop off their cans, bottles and containers.
There were 2.2 billion beverage containers sold in Alberta in 2012.
While 82 per cent found their way to bottle depots by the end of 2013, the return rate was much lower here in Calgary at 69.7 per cent.
The report suggests based on Calgary’s population, there should be 29 bottle depots in the city instead of the 23 currently in place.
