Police in Medicine Hat along with fire crews are investigating after a deadly house fire Friday morning.

The call came in just after 10:30a.m. for a home on fire in the River Flats area of Medicine Hat and when crews arrived they saw flames coming from the roof and windows.

Fire Chief Brian Stauth said the fire didn’t threaten other homes.

“Crews achieved a quick knockdown of the fire. the deceased person was located quickly. The fire from an operation perspective was handled quickly. Cause of the fire is undetermined as of yet,” he said.

Stauth wouldn’t say where in the home the victim was found or anything about their identity.

He said it has been a number of years since the last fatal fire in Medicine Hat.
