Olympic Champions to take over Calgary

Many of Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes and coaches are headed to Calgary to participate in what’s being billed as a Celebration of Excellence.

Because of training schedules, other commitments and the weather, Calgarains really haven’t had a chance to congratulate Canadian athletes who competed in Sochi, Russia.

While in the city, the athletes will visit a number of schools to speak with future Olympic hopefuls.

There are also a couple of big public events, starting with a meet-and-greet Stampede breakfast at Olympic Plaza on Friday.

“And that starts at, 10 o’clock,” explains Canadian Olympic Committee’s Derek Kent.

“People can get pancakes, they can see their heroes. We’ll have Olympians there, then of course the parade which starts at 11:30 a.m. will run up 8th Ave. right up to Olympic Plaza.”

Kent adds the Celebration of Excellence will also include a sports clinic, and a Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Gala and Dinner.

People are being encouraged to pack Stephen Avenue Mall for Friday’s parade.

And because the weather might be on the cool side, you might want to pull out those little red mittens.
