A legendary Calgary house is getting a new home.
Crews are moving McHugh House, which was built in 1896, to legally-protect the building as a municipal historic resource.
Russ Golightly with the City says it is moving to a new foundation in Humpy Hollow Park at 17th Avenue SW and Centre Street.
“It will take approximately two hours to get to its final destination,” says Golightly.
“The McHugh House needs to be relocated because the property it is on is scheduled for a new development.”
The move starts Sunday at 9 a.m. and will go until 3 p.m.
“We needed to remove it from its existing sandstorm foundation and put it up on basically a metal skid. In order to do that, we had to remove the brick on the exterior.”
During that time, Centre Street will be closed between 18th Avenue and 15th Avenue SW and 18th Avenue SW is closed between Centre Street and 1st Street SW.
