International Trails Day spawning new trail improvement program

Here’s something you may not have known:  the first Saturday of June is International Trails Day.

And now, there’s a new two-year pilot project being announced to develop a co-ordinated and sustainable recreation trail system in the province.

Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation, Dr. Richard Starke says the province is blessed with breathtaking natural beauty and they’re working to ensure the trail system is developed in a responsible manner, so it can be enjoyed for years to come.

Over the next two years, a number of projects will take place, including coming up with the best practices and recommendations for a trail classification and designation system and enhancing trail signs.

The provincial government is providing $500,000 for each year of the project.
