The leader of Alberta’s opposition party says it’s too early to tell if she would prefer an early election after the province has a new premier.
Wildrose leader Danielle Smith says a vote could happen as early as next February or as late as May of 2016 and they have to be ready for whichever comes.
But at this point, she doesn’t have a preference.
“I think I’ll have to wait and see what happens in September, it’s by no means a guarantee that a person who gets elected doesn’t have an elected mandate,” she said in Calgary this week.
“There’s two people in the race who are already elected to their constituency and so I guess I’ll just have to see who ends up winning.”
Jim Prentice, Ric McIver and Thomas Lukaszuk are battling it out to see who will be the next PC party leader.
While they fight for the top spot, the Wildrose has 19 active nominations open.
