A new study from the Fraser Institute suggests if Canada is looking to improve its health care system, it could learn a few lessons from what’s happening in the Netherlands.
Nadeem Esmail, Director of Health Policy Studies, tells 660News, the Dutch system embraces private insurance.
“For a similar amount of money, the Dutch health care system offers more timely access to emergency care, primary care, specialty care and elective surgery than the Canadian health care system. Policy makers here interested in reducing delays could benefit from taking a look at the Dutch approach to universal access care,” Esmail explained.
He says his study shows the insurance option in the Netherlands, both for profit and not-for-profit, allows people to receive medical treatment in as little as five working days.
