On a parcel of land just west of Canada Olympic Park, a group of dedicated volunteers are busy watching veggies sprouting, grateful for the recent rain and are now waiting for some heat!
Grow Calgary is hoping for a bountiful season, so our foodbank will benefit.
Farm Manager Jack Goodwin gives 660News an update and says, “We’ve got a bunch of new structures up, so the greenhouses are coming along nicely, hoop houses are looking great and it’s great to see some green things poking through the soil and hopefully with some sun in the coming weeks, everything will start to explode.”
Goodwin adds volunteers are now needed for one job, which should be easier, because of saturated soil.
He says, “High priority is weeding and mulching and it’s a huge plot, it’s a huge job, but every little bit counts and we can definitely use all the volunteers that we can get right now.”
Volunteers are welcome on the weekends between 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and also on weeknights between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.
