Hwy 547 bridge flood repairs delayed

Repairs to the Highway 547 bridge over the Bow River have been delayed by up to eight weeks.

Crews are blaming high water levels and unrelated drilling difficulties.

It could take at least two weeks for water levels to drop enough to allow construction equipment back on the berm.

It is now estimated bridge will open Aug. 29th with Alberta Transportation hoping it can be completed sooner.

Last year the decision was made to repair the bridge instead of replacing the structure, which would have taken three years.

The $2.1-million repair is expected to keep the bridge viable for the next ten years.
