The holy month of Ramadan starts this weekend.
Adult Muslims are required to fast from false dawn to sunset.
What stands out this year, is that it falls at the same time as the Stampede.
The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada understands that may create some concerns for people who will rely on taxis but Vice President Dr. Atthar Mahmood tells 660News they have a plan in place to make sure drivers can end their fast downtown.
The council will provide Iftari at the Al Madinah downtown location at 421 Riverfront Ave, SE.
“If taxi drivers go home or to their own area and undo the fasting, that will disrupt the service they provide our guests from all over the globe,” says Mahmood. “If a taxi isn’t available that would be a big inconvenience for them, so what we’re doing is having food and fare arrangements for the taxi drivers so they can go right back to work after they end their fast.”
The daily fast ends daily at 9:56 p.m.
