It’s property tax deadline day

There is no doubt a few people woke-up panicked Monday morning.

It’s the last day to pay property taxes in Calgary without incurring a seven per cent penalty.

The city’s Paul Wan says there is a way to avoid the last-minute panic every year.

“If you’re forgetting, or you’re away on holiday, I would say the best thing is to join TIPP (Tax Installment Payment Plan) program,” he said.

You can pay your property tax by going down City Hall during business hours, going online, or to any major bank.

Wan says there are usually about 20,000 people who still have a balance on their account on Canada Day.

If you do miss the deadline, the city will send you a reminder in the mail.
