Justin Trudeau needs to be taken seriously: he’s starting to hold sway.
That’s according to political scientist Dr. Chaldeans Mensah from MacEwan University after Monday’s byelections.
It was a Tory sweep for the two byelections in Alberta, but a strong showing by Liberal candidates, even in a Tory blue province, spells trouble–especially for federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair.
“[Mulcair] needs to develop some kind of message to convince people to abandon the Liberals,” explains Mensah.
“At this point the results are showing that the Liberal message and their charismatic leader, Justin Trudeau, are beginning to hold sway.
Mulcair will have to up his game if he wants a shot at the title in next year’s Federal Election.
“With the six new seats to be added to Alberta’s total, it’ll give him a chance to maybe try to get a seat here or there in the big cities. But it’s a difficult task for the opposition in Alberta–the Tories are just too strong.”
