A new sick day plan being unveiled by the Conservative government in Ottawa is sparking concerns civil servants will feel forced to go to work ill.
The new short term disability plan would see a reduced number of paid sick days.
It would also see employees who exceed their allotted sick time wait a week before they can start collecting short time disability pay.
The National Post reports, most private sector employers offer an average of five days of paid sick leave, compared to 15 days in the public sector.
Unions are arguing problems with sick leave can be fixed without overhauling the entire system.
